114 AD is remembered as the year Roman Emperor Trajan defeated the Parthians and overran Armenia and northern Mesopotamia.
In the neighboring magical world of Fabella, a gnome is first to write the magic laws that will define her legacy.
I’m Dillon Foley, and this is Archives of Fabella.
Beyond our world, there is love,
Beyond our world, there is war
Beyond our world, there is life
Beyond our world, there is Fabella
Aries 10th, 4114 FY Fabella year equal to March 30th 114 AD Earth Year
Dwarves or Dwarfkind were a race of people measuring about four feet tall. The name “dwarf” strictly referred to this species’ male because females were “gnomes.” Long dark hair, a stocky build, and deep voices were typical trademark characteristics of the dwarf kind. Beard length was a source of pride among the male population.
The most famous gnome in history was Tara, Daughter of Hogan. You may remember that we’ve met Tara before. In the episode titled “The Child,” she was a baby who couldn’t control her magic. By the year 4114, Tara has grown up and made a name for herself as the inventor of the flying broomstick, a disciple of Aphrodite, and a heroic Sentinel who fought against the rise of the 4110 rise of the evil Titan army. Now she is about to start her most extraordinary claim to fame, creating a school of magic.
Before she opens the doors to her academy, Saint Tara first has to develop a curriculum. On Aries 10th, 4114, she unveils her design for the different classifications of magic.
Basic Spellcasting is any incantation centered around words repeated out loud or reading from a spellbook. It encompasses jinxes, hexes, and curses. Jinxes are childish, playful spells usually done by young witches and wizards. Tara designed her curriculum to ignore these, but kids will be kids, and the casting of jinxes persisted throughout the school’s history. Hexes were attack spells used during duels or roughhousing. They were taught by faculty only as a means of self-defense and not considered especially lethal. On the other hand, Curses were fatal and regarded as illegal dark magic to perform in society. Students caught cursing each other immediately faced expulsion and criminal charges.
Divination is the term for performing a spell with the power granted to you by God. This involves fortune-telling, spiritually centered spells, and spells cast under extreme stress. This is the most common type, especially for beginners. Witches and Wizards who exclusively use Divination are called ‘Diviners’ and ‘Shamen.'”
Conjuration centered on summoning something, like an object or the spirit of a dead relative. Conjurers have a reputation for having a high opinion of themselves because they can create things out of thin air and are omnipotent “gods.” Conjuration was complex because witches and wizards had to repeat a long list of incantations to create the shape, material, and color of the object they used magic to create.
Charms exclusively concerned object-centered magic; medallions, rabbit’s feet, tokens, talismans, etc. All that belongs in charms because its magic is contained inside an object. Enchanters and Enchantresses always carry a lot of stuff with them and collect random knickknacks.
Other subjects in magical education developed as Tara continued to refine her curriculum. St. Tara’s Academy of Magical Arts and Sciences opened its doors to students in 4115.
