Barguest (bawr-gehst)

Barguest

The barguest dog was a breed of domesticated wolves with red eyes and horns. They were commonly bred as guard dogs for homes and livestock. As one of the first canines to be trained by people, barguests were working dogs who followed nomadic tribes, protecting caravans in exchange for food. Their background made barguests highly protective of their masters and they were often mistaken for being aggressive because they reacted harshly to people they found untrustworthy. They were preferred over alphyns for canine units for wardens and army officers on the battlefield.
