Billdad (bil-dahd)
The billdad sometimes referred to as the “water pup,” was a semi aquatic egg-laying mammal in the southeastern part of Fabella. It had webbed feet and a large curved beak. Weight varied considerably from 0.7 to 2.4 kg (1.5 to 5.3 lbs.) with boars being larger than sows. The webbing was more significant on the front feet and was folded back when walking on land. The body and the broad, flat tail of the billdad was covered with dense brown fur that trapped a layer of insulating air to keep the animal warm. The fur was waterproof, and the skin texture resembled that of a beaver. The billdad used its tail for storage of fat reserves and could live off them if food was scarce.
