Camazotz Bat (kahm-ah-zawtz baht)
The camazotz bat was a fearsome man/bat hybrid whose name literally meant “Death Bat.” Nocturnal in nature and fiercely territorial, these hideous beasts only hunted creatures large enough to suckle their blood. They were about six feet high and used echolocation to navigate. Camazotzes always mated on the warmest day of the year of whatever region they happened to exist. Meteorologists kept a colony of camazotz bats under close observation to note new temperature records. Female camazotzes were infertile for every other day of the year. Babies were called “pups.” Each litter was either two or more. Delivering a litter of one pup was considered a bad omen. A male camazotz was more involved than other animals in raising their young, but most of that responsibility was still on the mothers. Camazotz teeth were made of the strongest material in the animal kingdom. They could chew through the thick hides of dragons and even metal. Hunters often killed camazotzes in pursuit of their teeth. Early tribes of Fabella frequently used camazotz teeth to crack open cocoanut husks and etch designs into solid rock.
