Faun (fawn)
Fauns (Fawn) were one of the twelve species considered to be people. Males were “billies” until they reached the age of thirteen at which point they were referred to as “bucks.” Likewise, females were “nannies” until they turned fifteen and became “does.” Both sexes had horns and bowed hairy goat legs started below the knee. Early Fabella saw fauns mostly delegated to roles as leaders. Politicians and generals were predominantly fauns throughout recorded history. They were often stereotyped as being difficult people who were hard to reason with and always wanted their way.
Lifestyle
Widespread throughout Fabella, fauns were not the best at home construction. Their tents were noticeably built more flimsy than those of other people and they didn’t quite grasp the concept behind building grass huts or clay homes. They had enough power to make humans to that kind of work for them in the early years.
They gave live births and mated the same way humans did. Female fauns were called “nannies” when they were young and grew to become “does.” Likewise, young males were called “billies” and older ones were “bucks.” Bucks did not get in many bouts with their horns during mating season, mainly because horns were so important to how they were viewed by their own kind. Does were typically drawn more toward bucks who had healthy looking horns.
Anatomy
Goat legs didn’t begin until the the knees. Everything above the knee was human in appearance, except for the horns. Healthy looking horns were achieved by a steady healthy diet and consistent diligent washing. An unhealthy diet created very rough looking, brittle, horns and fungi would grow on them if not cleansed properly. Horns continually grew, requiring regular clipping. Most faun’s horns were about a foot and a half in height.
Culture
Fauns had a rich culture. Art created by fauns was deeply religious in nature, from exquisitely detailed statues to wooden carvings and the intricate paintings. Faun art could be found in almost every object and every aspect of daily life in Fabella.
Music
Music created by fauns was typically aggressive. Heavy metal music actually started in Fabella, springing up directly from faun culture. The electric guitar made its appearance in Fabella in 5925, far earlier than Earth by fauns who wanted to play guitar solos in big band ensembles. Doe musicians were forbidden from playing the electric guitar publicly. Brothels would let their employees play their music in exchange for them becoming prostitutes. As such, the high frequency music of heavy metal performed by does received a bad rap early on because it developed in this taboo underground environment.
Cuisine
Faun cuisine was mainly focused around meat, lard and animal fat. Barbecue was arguably what the fauns were most famous for. Fire-loaf was a very popular flat bread, and noober was a popular dessert made from dough that changed a person’s head different colors. One of the most well-known foods were pieces of fried squonk in a pan.
