We open on an entic named Brodia working as as tea servant for a wealthy noblewoman in the Republic of Fantasia. As she is serving tea, Brodia notices designs in the tea dregs causing her to have vision of the future. Brodia shakes off the vision denouncing it as a dream.
That is until the vision of the noblewoman dying happens exactly as she had seen it. Brodia attempts to repeat the experiment, trying to train her inner eye and has another vision. Brodia seeks out a scribe to write her visions where she meets Amos
Amos listens to Brodia describe her visions in tea dregs. He starts recording Brodia’s premonitions.
Meanwhile, Brodia experiments with other means of viewing the future. Amos can’t name Brodia in his text so they decide to call her “The Seer” to protect her anonymity.
One day, Brodia has a vision of Amos hanging himself. Brodia wonders if she can stop the vision from happening. Amos — not knowing about her most recent vision prophesizing his death — wants to release the first recordings of her visions. Brodia forbids him to do so, but Amos releases the text anyway hiring a boy to orally read the text. Brodia finds out and races to intercept the boy.
Brodia is too late and the a crowd gathers to hear her predictions of the future. Amos’ wife gets angry at him for risking his life and reputation. He comes home late at night to discover her with another man.
Brodia hears this news and races to stop Amos from hanging himself, but she’s too late. Brodia collects all of Amos’ writings which she intends to burn, but finds the boy has stolen them so he can take credit as the mysterious Seer. So she allows her story to fade into legend and never tells another soul about her visions of the future.
