Magic
Magic was a set of unique supernatural powers. While only select people called witches and wizards were able to practice magic, it was understood that all people had the ability to access these skills. People not able to use magic were called “Sadrus.”
Types
Spellcasting
Basic Spellcasting was any incantation centered around words repeated out loud or reading from a spellbook. Professional users were called Sorcerers and Sorceresses
Divination
Divination is a term for performing a spell with the power granted to you by God. This involved fortune-telling, spiritually centered spells, and spells cast under extreme stress. This was the most common type, especially for beginners. Witches and Wizards who exclusively use Divination were called ‘Diviners’ and ‘Shamen.’
Conjuration
Conjuration consisted of summoning something, like an object or the spirit of a dead relative. Conjurers had a reputation for having a high opinion of themselves because they could create objects out of thin air and were basically omnipotent “gods.” This was the rarest type of magic. Skilled conjurers were highly sought after for all occupations and paid exorbitant sums of money for their services.
Charms
Charms were object-centered magic; medallions, rabbit’s feet, tokens, talismans, etc. All that belonged in charms because this was magic contained inside an object. Enchanters and Enchantresses always carried a lot of stuff with them and collected random knickknacks.
Cost
While not believed at first to be the case, it was eventually discovered that magic was responsible for the spread of infectious bacteria. There was no way to predict what kind of bacteria would come out of a wand with every spell or who it would affect. The threat that a single spell could create an airborne epidemic was very real.
In 6016 FY | 2016 AD, during the outbreak of the Saga Virus, all surviving governments banned any use of magic. Rebel warlock factions who refused to give up the power quickly developed, leading to massive worldwide hysteria and armed conflict.
