Minotaur (min-oh-tawr)

Minotaur

Minotaurs were fiercely independent thickly built cattle folk. While other taurs like the centaurs and slithtaurs preferred living in colonies, the minotaurs liked their solitude. Fathers typically would not stay with the family and leave child rearing up to the mother. Children were normally put to work as soon as they could manage weilding a hammer. Minotaurs typically lived independantly as adults much earlier than other people.

Culture

Language

The minotaur cultural language of “Minotan” was a very gutteral language that to others sounded like grunting. It was mutually understandable with all minotaurs and passed down through the generations. The Minotan language and dialect was spoken by the minotaur groups who were currently settled in various locations including the far west. The

Song of the Mountains was sung to children as a cultural lullaby to describe the story of Evabor and Olla, the first minotaurs to brave the outside world and build a family in the Creation Age. Song of the Mountains was so treasured by the minotaur people that it launched a rebellion when the Bloodborne Empire demanded it be translated to Imperialish. The Mountain Song Rebellion lasted three days. After which time the minotaur people waved the white flag of surrender. Sebastian Brooks volunteered to translate his the lullaby, but discreetly rewrote an original story and distributed it to the Empire as an authentic work. He was able to appease the Empire’s whims but still keep the cultural identity of the minotaur people alive. Hence, a true retelling of Song of the Mountains in any language other than Minotan never existed.

Cuisine

Minotaurs would not eat anything from a bovine animal. It was agreed among their culture that anything from a catoblepas or even a hadhayosh was off limits. This made minotaurs incredibly adept at preparing meals with meat from birds, reptiles, and other animals, especially squonks.

Cultural Institutions

The Bovine Academy or “Cow College” was an independently run minotaur school responsible for promoting their language and culture. It was the site of the 5986 Cattle Call, a youth movement for minotaurs in the west calling for an end to tauran separation for the minotaur people.
