Fabellan Calendar
Origin
Fabella’s twelve-month calendar year was established in the Age of Marvels in 3625 FY | 376 BC. During this era, people freely traveled between Earth and Fabella. Conflict erupted between Earthlings and Fabellans, leading to a tremendous amount of casualties on both sides. One of the most bitter sites of conflict was in the Earth city of Babylon.
Following a raid in the Fabellan city of Meradus (Mehr-ah-duhs) by the Babylonians, the Meradisian military fought back by burning the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. King Erasan of Meradus, a harpy, led the legendary attack. While one of the seven wonders of the ancient world burned behind him, Erasan found an astrological chart in the rubble. Timekeeping had always been a struggle for Fabella as a whole during this period. Desperate to make a name for himself and have his memory live on, the winged king took the astrological chart and used it to create the Erasan Calendar.
Because Erasan stole his concept for the calendar from this astrological chart, the twelve month calendar he developed corresponded directly to the Zodiac. Fabella had no moon, so an astrological chart showing the position of the lunar cycle in relation to the stars at night would have been impossible. Erasan actually gave the Zodiac signs the names they went by on Earth, so in a way, he could be considered the father of the horoscope. By the time Fabellan scientists stumbled upon the true nature of the formation of this calendar, it had already been widely adopted and in use for centuries.
Motions were made throughout history to change it because “it doesn’t make sense.” These attempts all failed, and the Erasan Calendar remained popular throughout recorded history from its development onward.
The Twelve Months and the Zodiac
The twelve months of Fabella were as follows:
- Aries = March 21st – April 19th
- Taurus = April 20th – May 20th
- Gemini = May 21st – June 20th
- Cancer = June 21st – July 22nd
- Leo = July 23rd – August 22nd
- Virgo = August 23rd – September 22nd
- Libra = September 23rd – October 22nd
- Scorpio = October 23rd – November 21st
- Sagittarius = November 22nd – December 21st
- Capricorn = December 22nd – January 19th
- Aquarius = January 20th – February 18th
- Pisces = February 19th – March 20th
Every four years there would be a Pisces 31st and a holiday called “Dionysus” with one day full of partying and feasting. In later years people would take off work and go on a vacation. Magical things were also said to happen on this day. Lots of sporting events were also held on these days as everyone celebrated.
Days of the Week
Erasan also created the seven day week. He named them after the Latin numerical system.
Days of the week in Erasan’s native Latin were as follows:
- “Dies Unas” = Sunday
- “Dies Duo” = Monday
- “Dies Tres” = Tuesday
- “Dies Quartus” = Wednesday
- “Dies Quintus” = Thursday
- “Dies Sextus” = Friday
- “Dies Septimus” = Saturday
By the next era, the Age of Monsters, the days were simplified to:
- Unasday (U)
- Duosday (D)
- Tresday (T)
- Quartusday (QR)
- Quintusday (QN)
- Sextusday (SX)
- Septimusday (SP)
This trend remained throughout the following years of recorded history.
How weekends were scheduled throughout the week varied between countries. The Republic of Fantasia for example had a standard five day work week beginning on Unasday with Sextusday and Septimusday functioning as weekends.
