We open not in Fabella, but on Earth. Ancient Egypt to be exact. Here a girl named Esmera lives with her brother and parents at the height of their cultural society. Ancient Egyptians are responsible for a number of new inventions such as writing, sun-dials, makeup,
Esmera’s father is a notorious gambler. One day he makes a bet with a visiting royal foreigner and Esmera is sold to him as his bride. The mysterious foreigner hails from Fabella and Esmera is quickly whisked away to the magical world.
Now that she is literally in a world away from her family, Esmera is sold to a royal guard of Punt. The faun royal guard is known for being a harsh buck to his slaves, and to preserve her life, Esmera teaches him how to tell time using a sundial.
The harpy lady of the court learns of Esmera’s knowledge and puts the youth on her service. Esmera teaches the lady of the court how to use makeup to make herself look beautiful. While on a task for the lady of the court she meets the gobliness who serves as the Royal Seer.
The Royal Seer recruits Esmera to record her visions in writing. Whenever she has a vision of the future the Seer is sent into a severe seizure. Just after she relays the vision she’s had of a coming civil war in Punt to Esmera, the seer has a seizure so catastrophic that it kills her. Esmera reads other recordings from scribes past detailing the exact events of the civil war in Punt.
Esmera uses these scripts to side with the rebelling populace and ensure that they are victorious. She climbs high in the rebel ranks thanks to this foreknowledge. When the civil war causes the rebel faction to split from Punt permanently and sail to the neighboring continent to found a new kingdom, Esmera becomes the first Queen of Sheba. And that’s the tale of how a lowly girl came to a distant land as a slave and wound up a queen.
